The blast spells are a new type of magic card that Draugmoth has created.
The blast spells, in essence, are “monster attacks.” A good example of this would be the card "Burst Steam of Destruction." This is, in the manga and anime series, the attack of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but is portrayed as a normal magic card. The introduction of Blast Spells hope to make cards like these more realistic.

- All blast spells require an Activator. An Activator is the monster that is using the “attack.” For example, "Burst Steam of Destruction" needs you to have a "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" you control as an Activator. The Activator is listed at the beginning of the card lore, in the same place as Fusion Material Monsters are listed on Fusion Monsters.
- If you have more than one monster that can be used as an Activator (eg. More than one "Blue-Eyes White Dragon"), you must choose one.
- Blast Spells are considered to be an attack by the Activator as well as a spell.
- You may only use Blast Spells during your Battle Phase.
- If you use a Blast Spell, the Activator cannot attack that turn, unless a specific card effect (eg. Wonder Clover) allows it to. However, if the blast spell card says that the Activator may not attack that turn (eg. Burst Stream of Destruction), then the Activator may not attack that turn, regardless of other card effects.
- Because Blast Spells are both spells and attacks, you may both Chain to it as a spell card when activated (eg. Magic Jammer), or respond to it as if it were an attack (eg. Negate Attack).
- All Blast Spells are Spell Speed 2.
- If an opponent chains or responds to your attack during your Battle Phase with a Magic or Trap card, you may chain a Blast Spell to it. This can only happen when all the requirements are fulfilled: The Activator can still attack, your Blast Spell is face-down on the field, and the card you are chaining to is Spell Speed 2 or lower.
