Evolute Monster is a Monster Card Type created by Chad. They were introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! ME as a plot relevant mechanic. The card frame is colored dark brown with DNA strand motifs, representing the theme of "Transforming".
Characteristics[]
Evolute Monsters are Extra Deck monsters:
- They cannot exist in the hand or the Main Deck; if an Evolute Monster would be moved to the hand or Main Deck, it is returned to the Extra Deck instead.
- If a Evolute Monster is not properly Special Summoned by Evolute Summon before being sent to the Graveyard or banished, it cannot be Special Summoned from there (even by effects that ignore the Summoning Conditions).
History[]
Evolute Monsters used to be named "Armed Monster" and much like Monster Token, they were grey colored and physically non-existent until you could fulfil thier Summoning Conditions. Primary models such as "Geneseed Thorn Manticore" and "The Great Tri-Horned Dragon" were the first cards to be made as Evolute monsters, and had the effect to gain 500 ATK/DEF, much like their previous counterparts which were listed as an Evolute Materials. Since Yu-Gi-Oh! ME, the ATK/DEF gain was removed, however, they still retrain the concept of listing monster names as the first Evolute Material, however, it still require Levels/Ranks. Evolutes were previously named "Super Powers", but this was changed to "Evolutes" due to the name not rhyming with the mechanic. Evolutes also previously had the ability to "Self-Recharge" by discarding 1 Spell Card, increasing their own E-Cs by 1 once per turn, but that has since been removed.
Theme[]
The theme around Evolute Summoning is between alchemy and DNA manipulation, as the first listed monster "Transforms" by genetically combining it with another monster with different Gene(s).
Evolute Monsters' theme is amalgamation and mutations.
Mechanics[]
- Evolutes do not have Levels or Ranks, instead, they have a Stage, which determines how much E-Cs they receive when Evolute Summoned. If an Evolute Monster runs out of E-Cs, their Stage is treated as a Level.
- The E-Cs Evolute Monsters gain during their Evolute Summon are not treated as being by a card effect, and cannot be removed when the effects of an Evolute Monster are negated.
- An Evolute Summoned monster can regain E-Cs once flipped face-up. Any added E-Cs by card effects are removed.
- Any Evolute Monster can gain E-Cs more than given by its own Stage, or that exceeds the maximum Stage.
Summoning[]
Main Article: "Evolute Summon".
An Evolute Summon is the act of Summoning an Evolute Monster from the Extra Deck using at least 1 or more monsters: 1 with an Attribute, the other with a Monster Type (baring some exceptions). During the Main Phase 1 or 2, the turn player can Evolute Summon an Evolute Monster from the Extra Deck by sending monsters they control to the Graveyard that are the materials listed on the Evolute Monster, provided the total Levels/Ranks of those monsters exactly equals the Stage of that Evolute Monster.
Summoning Format[]
Old Summoning Formulas used to have "X Level/Rank X Attribute + X Level/Rank X Type", while the counters Were called "Evolute Counters" to "E Counters", then to "E-C".
From Series 10 and onwards, the Summoning Formula changes only from the text aspect, While the Evolute Monster still needs the Attribute, Type, and Indicators as a built-in Mechanic, they do no longer appear in text:
- (Number of Materials): Attribute, monster-Type [An optional addition (Including at least (x, x, x))]
Trivia[]
- Despite being advertised to use Xyz Monsters as materials, no Xyz Monsters appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! ME yet.
