Evolve Monsters are monsters that require (usually) 1 material to summon. In order to "Evolve" the material, the field must meet a certain criteria with what monsters you control, and this criteria is known as a "condition". A condition (as seen below) is indicated after the material, and is prefixed by a "w/". An example condition might be:
"Insert Name Here" w/ 2+ Effect Monsters.
In this instance, you need three effect monsters on the field in order to Evolve your monster; the material, and set number of other monsters on the field. The material in question never counts towards the condition, and is the only monster sent to the graveyard during the process of an Evolve Summon.
Evolve Monsters always require a named material, meaning that "1 Effect Monster" is not a valid material for creation, whereas "Kuriboh" is. This avoids Evolve spamming, encouraging the play of cards that might not otherwised be played, with the intention of Evolving them in your duel. In addition to this, Evolve Monsters can only be Evolve Summoned from the Extra Deck to a zone that their material(s) were occupying.
